Business card rant and a tap at the back

There is nothing more annoying than receiving a cheap and badly designed business cards. As a designer who cares about image and good branding sense, business card has a lot to say about a person and a company on first impression.

Business card design is a very important part of visual communication, many people overlook the value of having a professional business card. This single piece of paper accurately reflects your brand image and an integral part of your collateral package. It can make or break you as a person and a company. It's the first major impression. Here it's why it's still matters.

I've been working in Dubai for almost 14 years and I've collected literally eight books of business card holders since the time I arrived here. I never lost all those cards, for me it's a great resource of contacts, may it be 10 years old worth of contacts. As a designer, my habit is to look at the design, paper stock, quality of the print and how the person presented the card. My mentor always told me that presentation is everything event if it's a small piece of collateral. It should tell a story or make an impact, same is true with business card design.

Creative professionals knows that there's not a lot of great printers who share the same of vision of quality of developing high end printed work here in this part of the world. It's always been a challenge, a hit and miss. Printed materials ended screwed up no matter what the instructions are.

Last week we received our printed business cards for Ape. With a good printer partner and a lot of patience we finally attain a quality that we are looking for. A sexy piece of design that meant to disgust other card quality. The design is unconventional and trivial. People are getting mixed reaction about it. We called it a "Black on Black" approach. We are happy that we are pushing this boundaries. It's  a bit costly but it's worth it.

Behance Portfolio Reviews #8 Dubai

It all started as a joke when we received an email from Behance about attending and hosting the No. 8 reviews night.  We were surprised when we saw there was a void and no one was actually hosting it seriously here in Dubai. We are an active supporter and a big fan of the Behance community. So we took the challenge of hosting it, two weeks preparation before the event date, really tight timeline.

A huge thanks to all the supporters, guests and reviewers who made this event a possible and a success. An awesome experience. Here's the summary of the event.

What is Behance?

Behance is the leading creative platform, and is where you will upload your projects. Your work will appear in the Behance galleries, giving you exposure to millions of visitors who come to Behance to discover creative work.

What are Behance Portfolio Reviews?

Twice annually, Behance presents Portfolio Review Week, an unprecedented series of volunteer-organized events that has spread to hundreds of cities internationally, with a goal of bringing together creative professionals.

Portfolio Review Week was born of a simple wish: to bring our thriving online community into offline spaces, where creatives can sit side by side, sharing their work and developing their craft. These events provide invaluable exposure for creatives, as well as the chance to learn new tricks of the trade from their peers and our experienced guest speakers.Since PRW launched in 2012, nearly 1000 events in 115 countries have taken place around the globe - all run by our community leaders.
